Colorful Asian terracotta figurine
Summary: A discussion focuses on identifying and properly describing a colorful terracotta figurine of an Asian couple. lemarcheaupuces wonders about the origin and use of the term "Magot," which could be seen as spam on eBay. red71-2011 suggests that the figurine seems Japanese, based on the kimono pattern, but advises using the term "Asia" in the listing as a precaution. pannim4 sarcastically suggests doing a DNA test to determine the figurine's origin.
Hello...
here is a figurine of an Asian couple, colorful.
Google Images immediately showed me figurines called Magot.
when I look at the definition, it describes grotesque figurines in porcelain, resin and other materials.
first of all I don't think this couple is grotesque, rather realistic.
then it is colored, painted terracotta.
some Magot figurines come from China or Japan.
I saw on Google Images 2 figurines from a seller "laval" something that look like mine.
their title glazed terracotta, Japan.
my dilemma: using the word Magot could be considered spam (forbidden on eBay).
I have no more idea whether it is from Japan or China.
what do you think?
should I title it Asia, or can I say China or Japan?
thanks for any info.
it is 6" long and 5.5 high.
thanks...
have a nice day...

·2 years agoHello,
So before people jump on me saying the post is old, thanks, I know, but my reply might help others. Besides, the question is asking for an opinion.
So in my opinion, I think it's Japanese, or at least the depiction is Japanese. On the woman's kimono there is a motif showing a little house overlooking a ravine and some trees. That's pretty typical of Japan, and the kimono too ^^
Although the motif in question is debatable, it may also be a molding defect (if it is a molding) or just a random effect from the paint drying.
But in case of doubt, the term " Asia " would be enough in your ad.
Best regards.
