How can we protect ourselves from a possible scam, please?
Summary: mimi2630 is concerned about the safety of buying silver coins online, fearing potential scams because there is no verifiable oversight by eBay. frelonverre advises verifying the purchase personally or opting for official public auctions for greater security. mimi2630 acknowledges the difficulty of this approach but thanks them for the advice.
Hello everyone,
I’d like to buy a lot of silver coins for quite a substantial amount, and I have a very simple question. If a seller is a scammer (apparently there are a lot of them) and doesn’t put the agreed number of coins in the package, I would have no way of proving my good faith. He could even claim that I had taken a few of them before making a complaint. I suppose the buyer protection program wouldn’t be able to do anything for me because Ebay would have no way of checking.
Do you know if there’s a way to protect yourself against this kind of mishap please ?
(Especially since the seller in question still has no ratings on the site)
Thanks in advance for your help

it's simple, either you go out of your way and inspect what you're buying or you refrain from buying online

OP1 year agoThat's what I thought. Ebay has no way to control this type of product. And I don't see myself crossing France to check it myself.
Thank you for your answer.

unless you buy at a public auction run by an auctioneer (a ministerial officer), you have no serious guarantee online
