Suspected scam
Summary: h286y_28 is new to eBay and has doubts about a buyer with an account created in 2010 but no transaction history. The buyer ordered two Pokémon box sets and chose delivery to a pickup point rather than a home address, which seems suspicious to h286y_28. They’re asking for advice on whether this is a sign of a scam and how to protect themselves before shipping, as well as information on how eBay checks buyers.
Being a newbie on eBay (just 1 sale), I’d like to call on the experts and regulars of this site.
I listed 2 Pokémon boxes for sale, and one person bought both at the same time.
What worries me is that it’s an account from 2010 with 0 sales and 0 purchases and 0 reviews. It’s a shipment in France, but the name for delivery is an English-sounding name.
The delivery address is a Mondial Relay pickup point, not their personal address.
I find it strange that someone who has never bought or sold on eBay would directly choose a pickup point instead of their personal address.
They seem to know the procedures well, whereas on my side, I have to admit I struggled a bit to get my head around the system.
Is this a red flag? How can I protect myself before shipping? Does eBay verify buyers?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts
