Seller who knowingly kept 2 items
Summary: levoyageurcineaste shares an experience on eBay where, after accidentally sending the wrong items to two buyers, he managed to recover one of the items, but the second buyer refused to send it back even after receiving the correct item. eBay, according to levoyageurcineaste, did not take action against the buyer at fault and only said they would keep an eye on them. koalagris and other participants note that although the initial mistake was levoyageurcineaste’s, it is eBay’s decision not to intervene that is being criticized. The debate highlights that sellers need to be aware that the platform often favors buyers, which, according to levoyageurcineaste, is a recurring problem.
I accidentally sent one item to one person and another item to the other one by switching the items. The first person returned the item without any problem. The second refused to send it back without having received his item. I sent the item. And of course he kept both items. I called eBay X times, which finally gave me the answer. There is nothing we can do, but they will keep an eye on this buyer to see if he does it again and they will send him a warning. We report him to security. In conclusion, eBay knowingly leaves fraudsters on its site.

it's their word against yours and the facts are hard to prove, so eBay stays out of it.

OP1 year agoHello ebay has indeed seen everything is in the internal messaging discussion on their site in which the buyer clearly refuses to return

the internal messaging on their site in which the buyer clearly refuses to return it
and so what if he refuses to return it, it's his right
then he claims to have sent the item back ( he is not required to provide the tracking number ) and that's the end of it
ebay is not going to open an investigation to make sure everyone is honest
levoyageurcineaste
OP1 year agoThat's not it at all he received a return label paid for by me at his request and kept the item even though he had received that return label. He doesn't even claim to have sent it back, he confirms that he kept both

would you prefer him to use the return label to send you a stone?

OP1 year agoI think you still haven't understood what I'm trying to denounce: I couldn't care less whether the buyer sends it back to me or not: the problem is that aby, even though he has all the proof, still leaves the buyer in a position to keep buying

what you don't understand is that the site prioritizes buyers and isn't going to lose sleep over a seller's troubles
but all sellers with a bit of experience know that

·1 year ago"Seller who kept 2 items" = Do you mean buyer ?
Basically, this was your mistake.
The 2 buyers were supposed to file a return request (return shipping at your expense) to get a full refund, and potentially place an order again afterward.
There was NEVER any reason to send another item to the person who refused the return...
What do you want eBay to do? Are they responsible for your swapped packages and the second shipment that never should have happened?
levoyageurcineaste
OP1 year agoI’m not saying they’re responsible for my mistake, but that they let buyers do that on their site without banning them and thus allowing them to do it again

for it to happen again, another seller would first have to make the same mistake as you...
There is very little chance that will happen, if not none.
Don't kid yourself: this buyer will absolutely not be under any "monitoring" and even less reported to security.
At some point, you have to own your mistakes...
levoyageurcineaste
OP1 year agoI assume it without any problem. My message is just to point out that ebay will do nothing that would hinder a sale and their percentage and also so that the other sellers know that this can happen
regarding your sentence "for it to happen again, another seller would first have to make the same mistake as you..." it happened to me once in 2,000 transactions I hope it never happens to you

Swapping them around has never happened to me, but I did once send 2 items instead of 1.
The buyer didn’t say anything, and I owned up to my mistake.
Anyway! Move on, but don’t expect anything from ebay on this kind of problem.
Have a good evening.

·1 year agoAn order mix-up can happen to any seller.
On the other hand, piling on a new shipment BEFORE having gotten the other one back, no....
It's this double mistake that gives your buyer the upper hand: 2 items for the price of one, whereas without the second shipment they really should have had to make the effort to send back (at your expense) the parcel originally received.

OP1 year agoyeah I was too conciliatory that’s what ebay told me, too honest
