False return request

Summary: 0_fil_du_temps* recounts a frustrating experience with a buyer on eBay who requested a return claiming that parts were missing. Despite sending explanations, the buyer received the item and the refund. frelonverre comments on the difficulty of proving disputes, stating that eBay often favors buyers. 0_fil_du_temps* explains having been able to make the buyer pay for the return, showing the importance of evidence. The discussion highlights general dissatisfaction with eBay's return policies.

Hello, this story is crazy. I'm putting a doll clothes pattern and fabric kit up for sale. The buyer contacts me and tells me she didn't receive the instructions (not in the listing) I reply that there weren't any, or very few, in the weekly pattern from La Semaine de Suzette. I send them to her, plus my own instructions so she can manage to sew the pattern.

She replies to me: I don't feel capable of making something neat, I'd rather send the item back to you. I reply that I'm OK with that and I even give her the link to request the return.

And then surprise, she requests the return because pieces are missing (???) and eBay asks me not only to refund her, but also to pay for the return shipping (return label). I preferred to let her keep the item rather than spend more money. So my incapable buyer ended up getting everything: the item and the refund. So no more proof is needed? And when I try to contact eBay to dispute it, they reply: dispute closed, impossible to contest. BRAVO! It's getting better and better

 So there’s no need to provide proof anymore?

there was never any need to provide proof, and even if it were your buyer or you, you’d be quite incapable of providing any

it’s your word against th

Well yes, it’s happened to me that I had to provide proof for an item that arrived broken. And I think I read that in the rules too.

"If the item you received is damaged, broken or defective, you must add at least one photo (10 maximum) showing the defects or scratches to justify your return. Follow our Policy on the use of images, videos and text when you upload photos."

And yes, I could contest it because in my listing I stated what was for sale in the listing and there are no explanations noted.

In the end, it’s now easy for buyers: they make up anything without proof and the seller not only has to refund but also pay for the return. Amazing, this whole thing is crazy.

On top of that, this whole return label thing that the seller has to provide is nonsense. Especially since it doesn’t seem easy to get it.. EBAY is becoming a real monster. Courage to the few newcomers who sign up there. 0 profiles are disappearing.

Well no, the buyer, based on the evidence I provided (the terms of my listing), had to send the item back to me at her expense. And you always had to send evidence to contest a decision, at least since I've been on eBay...

@0_fil_du_temps*

hello , how do you provide proof of a broken item

and yes it is broken, but how can you prove that the buyer didn't break it themselves when unpacking it, when the parcel is intact , what do you do ?

and practically every time ebay sides with the buyer
