Summary: sirjames60 explains an auction situation where, after a bidder is outbid, the new bid stays high even when the first bidder withdraws. This seems odd to sirjames60, who doesn't understand why the amount doesn't go back down. frelonverre suggests that the bidder may not have actually withdrawn, which only confuses sirjames60 more. A possible bug or the idea of "bid pushing" is mentioned, along with the question of possible penalties for frequent withdrawals.
Hello
I would like to get your opinion on a point that seems strange to me.
To help you understand better, I’ll give an example below. The case is real, but the figures are only for illustration.
An item is put up for auction starting at 10 euros.
Bidder A places a bid that goes up to 15 euros
He is then beaten by B, who bids 15.50 euros
A then withdraws. But the current maximum bid amount remains 15.50 euros.
This seems strange to me, because I would then have to bid at least 16 euros, i.e. bid on a fictitious amount, since in any case A is no longer in the running.
Why is the amount not automatically lowered back to its level before A’s intervention
Is this normal? Thanks in advance for your comments. And have a nice day.

it's just that A didn't retract

OP5 months agoThanks for your quick reply , but I understand less and less. His retraction is reported and he no longer appears as a bidder. A bug maybe then. Moreover, the guy is at 8 retractions over the last 12 months. No sanction planned for guys who retract too often ?
