Taxes
Summary: Anonymous User is worried about having to pay taxes after receiving a message once they passed €2,000 in sales as a private individual. francexpressdeal and koalagris advise checking with the tax office for accurate answers, since it depends on the household’s overall income. colleurdeplastique explains the DAC7 directive, which requires sales platforms like eBay to provide tax information for sellers who have made more than €2,000 in net sales. The French tax authorities normally require declarations for annual gross sales exceeding €3,000 and 20 transactions, but ikoo31 mentions an update, saying the threshold is now €2,000, applicable to 2024 income. Finally, b05999 adds details about the difference between occasional and professional sales, pointing out that the law requires taxation for income exceeding €5,000, apart from certain exceptions.
I recently went over €2,000 and so I received a message saying that I needed to provide my tax information.
Will I have to pay taxes on the sales I made? (I’m an individual)
Thanks in advance for your answers

·2 years agoHello,
You should put the link to this law. That way, everyone could benefit from the full text.
Because I doubt this is reduced to just a sentence and a half.
Besides, in a sentence, there is what is written, what people read, what they understand, what they think they understood, what they mean if they rewrite it the way they understood it or thought they understood it, etc etc

·2 years agohello
yes but a total of 5000 and not 2000 eur
and I don't see why shipping fees are included in that since they are received by the seller to give to the carrier
but oh well
a person who sells for 4000 eur on ebay will never have 1000 eur of shipping
so ebay logically does not have to declare these sellers specifically
they are the ones who decided that
not french law
If you sell goods that you no longer wish to keep (for example, a stroller, your collection of jazz records, or your old television, etc.) and these sales are occasional and are carried out as part of the management of your private assets, excluding any professional activity, the income from these sales is not taxable.
Special case
There are nevertheless certain exceptions to this rule where you must declare this income:

·2 years agoHello,
the DAC7 directive requires online sales platforms to provide their country’s tax authority (Germany in eBay’s case) with information about sellers who have made more than €2,000 in sales (gross - eBay fees) and more than 30 transactions. eBay is asking for your tax number so that Germany can then pass the information on to the relevant country’s tax authority.
If in 2024 the French tax code does not change for online sales thresholds for private individuals, the threshold is €3,000 gross and at least 20 transactions, combined across all online sales platforms. Below that, there is nothing to declare.
The DAC7 directive allows EU tax authorities to detect sellers using multiple platforms. Before, platforms informed the tax authorities only if the €3,000 gross and 20 transactions threshold was exceeded. So a seller could hide their sales from the tax office by staying under the €3,000 threshold across several platforms, eBay, the **bleep**, **bleep**,...etc. Today that is less possible.
in summary, if you have sold a total of less than €3,000 gross, you will have nothing to declare if the tax code does not change in 2024. To be checked when the tax authorities publish the help newsletter for tax filing in April.

·2 years agoI think that for 2023 income, we're still at the 3000 euro threshold.

·2 years agoHello,
On this Ebay page: https://www.ebay.fr/help/selling/selling/dac7-obligations-dclaratives-en-matire-de-ventes?id=5394
It does not say "€2000 in sales (gross - eBay fees)". On the contrary, it says that the information is transmitted if "the income from your sales on eBay is equal to or greater than EUR 2,000 after deduction of fees, commissions or taxes". So it is calculated from the net result, not the gross.
Which is normal. It would be absurd for Ebay fees to be included in these calculations since sellers do not receive them.
