The impact of forum changes on community participation
Summary: mncuv7 started a discussion about the effect of forum changes on member participation, expressing concerns about accessibility and intuitiveness following the modifications. mp9pdw stressed the importance of not replacing what works well and criticized certain aspects, such as untranslated notifications and the lack of continuity in discussions. Both participants expressed frustration with the site administrators’ decisions, highlighting a disconnect between loyal users’ expectations and the changes that were implemented.
Dear community members,
With the constant evolution of discussion platforms, we often see changes in the structure and design of forums. However, these changes can have a significant effect on member participation, especially for those who have been loyal for a long time. I’m curious to hear your opinion on this topic.
What factors do you think are important to take into account when changing a forum to avoid discouraging loyal participants? Do you have any examples of positive or negative experiences to share?
Your perspective is valuable and can help shape future decisions regarding the management of our discussion space.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions!

I’m coming back to this topic...
the AI summary that’s shown gives the impression of ending up at the end of a secondary school cycle where you had to make text summaries to show your ability to understand writers or authors....
This constant hand-holding contributes to infantilizing the site’s users a bit more .. to spoon-feeding/ dictating how to approach things or think... it’s completely mind-numbing.
Something else...
it might be useful to keep the chronology of replies in the order they were posted, rather than all mixed up as in some threads where you have to spot the dates and times to understand what follows in a discussion.
I fear that the current version of this forum will attract even fewer readers or responders than the old forums which, as they were successively modified, lost a significant number of their followers...
But that was probably intentional...

OP3 months agohello @lingma85
by now you should know that we're dealing with " autistics " ( my apologies to those who suffer from it ) , that the site never questions its decisions only a handful of die-hards managed in their time to remove the requirement for paypal in listings ( too bad the old-timers also have memory )
anyway, we're coming to the end of a cycle

I forgot...
It would be nice too, if everything were in French ( in a French forum... that would be the bare minimum )
For example----> the notifications that come in English...
The programmers still have some work to do..!

·3 months agoHello,
To avoid discouraging... we need to avoid deleting the teams that are winning...
The forums that worked existed before we started outsourcing with Khoros..
Try to take back or redo what was done well... and/or think about what’s blocking things...
AI still doesn’t replace the human brain...
Kind regards

OP3 months agolike all the "smart" improvements proposed by the site for years, it sucks, it's hard to access, not intuitive, as complicated as can be
in short, good luck to those who want to help others, assuming those people can even manage to express themselves
