LIVE NUMISMATICS ON EBAY
I’ve participated in a few numismatics live streams on eBay and I’m very wary of this practice, which seems dangerous to me because it’s addictive.
All the sellers I’ve checked out, all professionals, seem serious. But while some warn against compulsive purchases that are paid for at way too high a price, because the system gets you caught up in these auctions, other sellers push people to buy and you don’t really get any bargains, except once in a while. It’s also a huge waste of time. For now, no extraordinary deal, no time to check references, no time to assess the quality of the coins presented. I’ve noticed several times that some items were bought for 2 to 3 times the price you can find elsewhere and even אצל other dealers. Of course, with precious metals there’s little surprise, and even then. Some silver coins that seem to me destined for melting fetch outrageous prices. Be careful, new collectors: before buying, consult books, references, the Numista site, which is reliable for descriptions but not very reliable for prices, and serious dealers. The CGB site, even if a bit more expensive, is a site where you can find a lot of references and Live sales and it catalogs coins on the internet. Franc publishers, and the Fayette publishers for banknotes, among other editions. Those who have taken part in or watched numismatics Live streams on eBay should give their opinion. Thanks to them. And happy collecting to everyone.
