return of an order
Summary: lud_33211 discussed an issue regarding a purchase on eBay. They received an item that was incompatible with their phone, and although they started a return that was accepted by the seller, they have to pay the return shipping costs despite the indication that it would be covered by the seller. The other participants suggest that it was a mistake on lud_33211's part for ordering without checking compatibility and advise reselling the item or paying for the return. lud_33211 insists that this is a misunderstanding. The discussion also touches on the return policies of professional sellers.
Hello, I made a purchase on eBay, I did receive my order but it wasn't suitable for the device for which I made my order.
I made a return request to the seller, he accepted it but refuses to send me the return label, while it is him who has to pay the return costs; it is clearly stated that the return costs are the seller's responsibility.
And the seller replied to me by email that I had to print the return stamp on the La Poste website, but I just went to check and I have to pay for the return stamp.
What should I do?

If the seller sent you the item exactly as described in the listing, then they are not at fault. They can’t guess which phone model you are about to own, or even whether you actually planned to get one. It was kind of them to take it back; there’s no reason for them to pay for the return out of their own pocket!!!!
It’s only if the seller sent you something other than what they advertised that the return guarantee can apply.
BUT you can always try filing a claim with the phone manufacturer if they mislabeled their packaging... If you do, above all, don’t forget to tell everyone on this forum the details and the outcome of the process. What documents did you have to provide?? Did you need a lawyer?? This could be of interest to other buyers in a similar case of a seller correctly sending an accessory for an item the buyer did not have at the time of purchase.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards.

It's kind of him to take it back, there is no reason for him to also pay for the return shipping out of his own pocket!!!!
Since the seller is a professional, he is only fulfilling his obligations.
What is kind for his customers is that he added 15 days to the withdrawal period.
As for return shipping costs, he is dealing (as is often the case) with someone who did not fully read the listing, because everything is clearly mentioned in the "return conditions details".
Kind regards

·3 years agoHello, @felin12 ,
You are absolutely right. The post by lud... did not specify the seller's status. In any case, whether it's a legal obligation or a matter of goodwill, I consider accepting a return for personal convenience to be good commercial manners.
If I buy six eggs to make a dish and then realize that my cookbook was wrong about the ingredients needed, I don't take the eggs back to the poultry seller... But assuming I did, would I then ask him, as a bonus, to reimburse my gas ??? I can only imagine what that would be like at the market......
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoIt's not my mistake, I was referring to the phone box; on the day I placed my order, I didn't have the phone.
And when I received my order and tried to put it on the phone, it didn't fit.
And now I end up with a phone battery cover that I paid €9.90 for, which I'll never use, and on top of that I should pay for return postage to send it back !!!

If I understand correctly,
You ordered a phone case when you didn’t even have the phone yet and based on the phone box
Then you received the phone and the case and you realized that this one doesn’t fit the phone
Is that right?

😎there is still one solution left for you.
That is to buy the right phone with its box that perfectly matches your order for "rear glass battery cover case lid..."
kind regards

and you’re convinced you didn’t make a mistake!!!!
anyway, messing with a seller over 10 bucks and then complaining to avoid putting on a stamp really shows the mindset of eBay buyers
forget about cell phones and buy a BLED

·3 years agoNo need to beat around the bush, you did make a mistake.
You should have waited to get the phone before buying the case.

it’s up to you to ask all the questions and buy with confidence
ebay is not amguiz and sellers don’t have to bear the buyers’ mistakes

"it wasn't suitable" = mistake in the order on your part, or description not matching the item received?
Best regards
