Postal delivery or private carrier
Summary: The discussion focuses on the importance for Ebay sellers to clarify the delivery method and carrier for buyers. irbai20 points out that this information is often missing, which makes it harder for customers to choose. Other participants mention that the choice of carrier is often limited by local availability and sellers' preferences. The issue of offering pickup points as a standard option is also debated, with arguments about convenience and buyers' privacy. The exchange highlights the need for a balance between sellers' practices and customers' expectations.
Hello,
It would be good if all Ebay sellers (because not all of them do) clearly mentioned the delivery method (national or foreign postal service) or private carrier (clearly indicate the delivery company (DHL, DPD, UPS ...). Also, please do not reserve Point Relais exclusively for Mondial Relais, but also always give this option when finalizing the purchase so that the customer can be delivered to a Point Relais (regardless of the private carrier) without any problem.

OP2 years ago"Societal homogenization" was mentioned. Privacy is also important even in a delivery situation.

I don't see what this has to do with privacy
as for me, I offer free shipping so I don't inform people and it's very often via Mondial Relay, living "in the countryside" the trip is the same whether it's the post office or the pickup point, so I do as I please I sell an item not a service

OP2 years agoWith La Poste or Mondial Relais, there are generally no problems with delivery.

·2 years agoAs for pickup points, in my personal case, I long refused to offer this service because there weren’t enough around where I live to drop off parcels. It’s only since 2020 that many have opened up, and now it’s easy for me to go drop off shipments there.
If sellers don’t offer pickup-point delivery, it’s also because they don’t have access to a drop-off point nearby, especially those who live far from cities.
Best regards.

OP2 years agoGenerally in town, sellers are in commercial areas and have access to pickup points that are well known to delivery companies. Delivery to a pickup point is often very convenient (less restrictive than home delivery, especially for small items and also preserving their privacy) for buyers, since they can pick up their parcel whenever they want. Isn't customer satisfaction what matters most to the seller?

That’s only your opinion... and not an obligation...
Indeed, the customer is king... but only to the extent of their wallet... no more...
Kind regards

OP2 years agoIn any case, if the delivery option does not suit the buyer, they simply do not buy (but the mention of the delivery method/shipping company must be clear and unambiguous, which is not always the case). The buyer must be able to make an informed purchase.
The problem is that even if we offer the seller another delivery method, in many cases they do not accept it (even if that should result in an additional cost).

·2 years agoHello @irbai20
Everything you’re saying is all very well.... but let’s not forget that NOT ALL sellers live or work in a large city grouping together all the carriers...
As @electro38 says, it’s the seller who chooses the carrier for which the buyer appoints them by paying the delivery fees...
If the delivery service doesn’t suit you, you can always contact the seller and express your wishes, which may or may not be granted...
You can also just move on if this service isn’t for you..
BUT if you buy, you are automatically showing your agreement with the terms indicated in the listing and it is bad form to complain after purchasing...
Kind regards

OP2 years agoThe problem is that it's not always very CLEAR. The delivery method isn't always mentioned, nor the delivery company they use.
And also why not systematically offer the Point Relais option at checkout (whatever the carrier) ????

"And also why not systematically offer the Point Relais option when finalizing the purchase (whatever the carrier"
- because not all carriers have it...
and also because we are not in a standardized society for everything... and because the site does not have this capability since it sells nothing and buys nothing and therefore leaves its sellers free to manage their business as they see fit...
Best regards
irbai20
OP2 years agoThis is not a matter here of a "uniformized society" but of freedom of choice, not only for the seller but also for the buyer. If several delivery options are not offered to the buyer, then the potential buyer simply does not buy.

·2 years agoGood evening,
It's the sellers who choose which carrier they want to "work" with.
If you can't choose a particular service, it's simply because the seller doesn't offer it.
Best regards.
irbai20
OP2 years agoYes, but they must CLEARLY mention the delivery company they work with (customer information obligation)
In the end, it's the customer who chooses whether or not to order depending on the delivery method (because some delivery options are impossible and incompatible for these delivery companies competing with postal services).
