Re VAT + customs duty paid twice
Summary: The discussion is about problems related to double charging of VAT and customs duties when importing parcels into France from abroad. comete_13 expresses frustration with how these fees are handled, particularly in the context of purchases made through eBay. spectralys shares a similar experience importing from Japan, highlighting a lack of communication and support from eBay. Other participants discuss the importance of the IOSS number to avoid paying these fees twice, but note that many sellers do not include it, creating complications and billing errors.
聽I no longer have access to the tax invoice link, which is no longer present in the order details...
as for me, here we go again with a parcel from China with import VAT paid to eBay and FedEx asking me again for advance customs duty and customs fees on top, even though everything has been settled,
one out of two times it's like this, I can't take it anymore, it's enough to make you want to bang your head against the wall!

I'd really like to know how聽a private individual outside the European Union who ships their parcel to France without going through eBay delivery聽does it to mention that import VAT has already been paid by the recipient?
some people here mention an IOSS number that would appear with the recipient's address, but in which form do you put this IOSS number in an export declaration, and do private sellers also have this IOSS number to communicate?聽
if anyone can explain it to me, I would thank them in advance聽
eBay could clearly explain what the seller has to do when they send a parcel to France where customs has already been paid so we don't pay it twice, instead of going on and on about import VAT being collected at source for buyers because we've already understood that 5/5
there is no detail at all for sellers who export without going through this international delivery system, which is only valid for the UK and the USA!聽 it's worse than reading a tax form from the IRS!

路1 year agoI paid customs clearance on my purchase in Japan for USD 38 ..聽 聽( it's an old camera lens of over 70 years ) But when the item arrived in France, they asked me to pay customs clearance again for 33 euros, because the Japanese seller did not mention that this VAT had been paid by me at the time the invoice was finalized (deducted by eBay) .. Arriving in France, the French customs via DHL are asking me for customs clearance of 33 euros!聽 So I paid to be delivered: I have a DHL payment certificate for the customs clearance: But eBay is not answering me! it's already been more than a month, I don't understand:聽 all the documents concerning this purchase were provided + the receipt paid a second time to eBay..聽 聽I made several claims But NOTHING!..聽 聽What to do? In retaliation I canceled all my purchases outside the EU, but eBay doesn't care!.. I've been on this eBay site since 2007, rated 100% on my purchases and sales..聽 We get "automatic" responses and they talk to me about shipping fees! BUT THESE ARE CUSTOMS taxes that I paid!聽

to start with, instead of digging up a thread that鈥檚 almost two years old, you could open your own
聽the Japanese seller didn鈥檛 mention that this VAT was paid by myself at the time the invoice was finalized (charged by eBay) ..聽
and how could a seller do that? he sells his item, eBay gives him his money and sends him the item
everyone has to deal with their own country鈥檚 laws

路1 year agoHello聽@frelonverre聽
聽
you say:聽"how a seller could do it".
聽
The seller only needs to indicate on the shipment the IOSS number that was communicated to them by ebay. That way, customs services know that the import VAT was indeed paid at the time of purchase and the carriers do not charge it again.
聽
The problem is that the majority of sellers do not do this. Which explains the number of posts on this "double billing" problem.

路1 year agohello聽@francexpressdeal聽
it's true that ( on ebay ) not shipping outside France, both so as not to have to deal with the various ebays and in the buyer's country's language and so as not to complicate my life with French legislation, I'm not up to speed on these subtleties
my world is filled with simple people, you want something you pay and the seller ships, here we're a long way from ebay in the early days
have a good day

路5 months agoAlthough your post is from 1 year ago, I would like to reply to you that today Ebay has put in place a customs fee reimbursement link because they are the ones who handle collecting and paying the customs fees on your behalf. But for it to work, the IOSS number must be mentioned on the customs declaration that is attached to your package. If the seller does not enter that famous IOSS number provided by eBay, French customs will collect these customs fees a second time! You need to keep the carrier's invoice and eBay's invoice, then send them to eBay. So it is now possible to get the VAT back... but on the other hand, the carrier's handling fees are on you...
