Linking a purchase to an account
Summary: alex02092007 asks whether it is possible to associate a guest purchase with their eBay account, because the item received is defective and the purchase does not appear on their account. max2661953 replies that it is not possible and provides a link to online help. alex02092007 points out that the email used for the purchase is the same as the one on their eBay account, and wonders why it was not blocked. lingma85 explains that the invitation to create an account is automatic and not thought through. francois-o confirms that a guest purchase does not require an account and advises contacting eBay customer service to resolve the dispute.
Hello,
Is it possible to link a purchase made while not logged in to my personal EBAY account?
I made a purchase a few days ago, and the item is defective. There is no trace of this purchase on my Ebay account, so I think I made it while not logged in; however, the Email address provided during the purchase is also the one associated with my Ebay account.
For practical reasons in terms of tracking a return request, since for now there has been no response from the seller (a real hassle without an account + multiple bugs on the Ebay site), I would like to add my order to my account; especially since the Email address is identical.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello @alex02092007 ,
@max2661953 and @lingma85 are right.
Since this is a guest checkout, we assume that the person doesn’t have an eBay account. So the email is intended to invite you to join our community.
Some people don’t want to make a purchase on a specific item while being signed in to their account. That’s why it’s possible to have the same email address.
Some members have a seller account and an account for their purchases. eBay therefore allows multiple accounts on the same email address.
If you have an open dispute to get more details on tracking, I invite you to contact customer service directly.

·3 years agoGood evening @alex02092007 ..
You write---> "Yet I am being offered the chance to create an account to link the purchase."...
The "it" is just an automatic prompt made by software (which doesn't think...) to bring in a new member to the site... you shouldn't take it into account systematically..
