Clear/empty cart contents on eBay = impossible??
As the title says, I can't be any more explicit I can't save an item for later or remove it from the cart since today ?? even after turning my pc off and back on or doing a cleanup with avira I didn't buy these items so no they are not in payment mode or awaiting payment ! I can't do anything neither remove them nor save them for later, so weird

I'm also on PC and I haven't noticed any issues with the cart today (you can easily remove an item if needed).
From what you explain, it seems that you have confirmed the purchase. So you're at the payment stage (pending for now).
Contact the seller and ask to cancel, explaining the situation to them.
