Hello,
I’m sharing a firsthand account of how eBay handled a recent case in which I was the seller. The collectible item was described as having been modified in certain respects; the buyer asked me questions about those points, I answered them, and then he decided to buy the item. Obviously, when it arrived, he disputed the points described in the listing and about which I had answered his questions; naturally, he complained to eBay, who ruled in his favor even though the “no returns” option had been clearly stated ... after opening a dispute, my eBay contact explained to me, with no shame at all, that this option had no value ... I was forced by eBay to refund the buyer in exchange for the return of the item, which still has not been sent back to me after more than a month. The buyer claimed that I had received the item, and eBay did not bother to verify his claim and closed the dispute ... I’ll let you guess in whose favor ... so I decided to withdraw all my sales from this platform because seller protection is worthless, namely a sloppy review of listings and seller/buyer exchanges, failure to respect the options offered, no verification of returns, and closing the dispute before the case was definitively resolved. My testimony is an invitation to take every precaution as a seller because you will not be protected by eBay. I can still accept that they ruled in the buyer’s favor despite his bad faith, but I cannot accept that they closed a dispute while the matter was still ongoing, namely that the item returned by the buyer still had not reached me.
