Drastic drop in sales
Summary: The discussion addresses the significant drop in sales on eBay, noted by several participants. arnmec0 shares concerns about declining sales despite having interesting items. Participants attribute this drop to various factors, such as the lack of visibility of listings on search engines, competition from other platforms, and broader economic issues. Some suggest exploring other sales options, such as flea markets, or diversifying marketing efforts. A debate also arises over one participant's selling practices, prompting criticism about reporting income.
Hello, for the past two months, my sales on eBay have dropped drastically. Yet the items I have for sale are interesting. Is anyone else in this situation, and what is the cause?
Thanks

·9 months agoI’ve been an amateur painter for 10 years on eBay.
Low prices.
You have to list items every day to stay on the first page, so every day in prime position.
In my category, of course. collectors, resellers, and casual browsers are my customers
I play the monthly calendar day by day.
At the end of the month, eBay relaunches my past sales that have been sitting there and brings them back to the top.
I also sponsor a few large-format canvases that won’t be sold, which brings me customers to my small-price paper shop
If the large canvases are followed, I stop sponsoring them and sponsor another one.
And then I can’t say everything.
Putting items up day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, your item is at the top depending on demand.
That takes a lot of management work.
On top of that, nothing stops you from relisting the same item 30 times on the calendar algorithms, you just have to change the image reference. So that eBay accepts it.
In my case it’s difficult to manage because they are unique works.
Duplicate sales go very fast.
You’d need 30 identical listings for each day.
In my case, if I take a 3-month break, no problem, besides, the sales are programmable.
You have to stay ahead.
A whole job of who’s who.
In my field this also brought me a second market outside eBay.
And others who come through the workshop.
I don’t sell on other platforms because I sell too fast.
That said

·9 months agoI forgot to mention, I used to have a pro account, I switched it to a personal one
So I lost more than 1400 reviews
And actually today, I want as few reviews as possible.

·9 months agoAmateur painter and you sell dozens of canvases on Ebay and elsewhere, so you make a living from it, while being registered as an individual and without paying any taxes or duties? I call that undeclared business, besides you yourself talk about a "market" and a "job"^^. I bet you're also capable of collecting RSA or unemployment benefits, without any shame...
And on top of that, instead of keeping a low profile, you come in here bragging? No comment...

well, for someone who isn’t commenting, that’s pretty well mimicked !!!!!!!!!!

·9 months agoOh, but I made sure not to say what I thought of it with the words that came to mind^^
It's because of people like that that those who are truly in need but have neither the means nor the desire to cheat end up losing the little they have...

blaming a category of people is not the solution
I think everyone gets by as best they can to survive, but of course showing yourself the way this seller does is not a sign of maturity, provocation attracts criticism and sooner or later brings him the trouble that his behavior causes
basically, to live happily, live hidden

it is human nature to lie ( let's say human )

·1 year agoHello,
You also need to compare the numbers.
eBay US, RU and Germany are at the top of the list.
France is in the rest of the world.
Have a good evening.

·1 year agoHello
The problem mainly comes from the fact that when a visitor accesses the page of an item that is potentially interesting to them, the title and price appear, but then when they want to scroll down to see the description, they are faced with a line suggesting similar items from other sellers...... so they leave your listing and will not complete the purchase, and will not come back to your item

·1 year agoFor my part, sales are down everywhere, and for the past 3 months. Do people no longer want or can no longer spend? Or are they putting their money aside? This drop in sales because of the economic crisis is terrible

·1 year agoHello
indeed, I am seeing a very significant drop in sales since the beginning of June in particular. I’ve gone from about 5 to 7 books sold each week to 1 per week currently! I don’t think EBAY is responsible but rather the current events (war in the world, political uncertainty in France etc.) that are making our potential customers hesitant. Let’s wait a little

·1 year agoIt’s mainly that ebay has no visibility on search engines
Having switched sites, there are other sites where the opposite happens, sales volume increases
The customer base just moved to another site after too many problems with ebay
Also, geopolitics isn’t helping, that’s for sure

I went to look at your sales but I’m getting a stiff neck from your photos being all over the place, even upside down.
When you upload a photo, eBay gives you the option to improve it: rotate it, remove the background, adjust the brightness. There is so much competition now, especially for books, that every detail counts.
Taking care with the presentation could bring in more buyers in my opinion, unless you have rare items that no one else offers.

·1 year agoHello
I have the same problem! I even ran promotions throughout the whole month of May to try to “boost” things, but I sold NOTHING on eBay! All the sales I managed to make were on other sites... and yet I have + 1500 items for sale and I've been selling since 2007... but the more time goes by, the less I sell... and indeed these last 2 months: it’s been a total void!

well, as long as you haven’t sold anything, all you have to do is renew the listings
think of the site as a big folder where you store your listings and from which you pick to feed other sites

·1 year agoHello
There hasn't been much traffic on Ebay for quite a while now, I'd say a year or two; buyers of the kind of items you're selling have followed the sellers who left for other sales sites, for various reasons, notably the fact that to be visible on search engines now you have to pay for SEO ourselves (they rather nicely call that ad sponsorship...). Try searching for a few items on Ggle; you'll see that Ebay ads appear (when they appear) well after those on the other sites.
You can keep posting on Ebay, it's simple and it renews automatically so it's not very time-consuming, and it doesn't cost anything. You'll still sell something now and then...
On the other hand, supplement it with other sales channels (flea markets and garage sales, other sales sites depending on the items...)
Best of luck to you.

·1 year agoMe, obligation to take other sales materials. No way to pay extra fees to sponsor! Might as well give them our materials

·1 year agoHello,
Right now the site is barely hanging on, as they say.
Also, your items may be too specialized.
