Cancellation fee for unavailable item
Hello, I have a buyer who bought me an item for a total amount of 5.60, fees 0.91, which leaves 4.69 net for me. Unfortunately the item was no longer available because I had sold it elsewhere, so I cancel the purchase due to the item being unavailable. eBay takes back 5.04 net from me for the refund of the purchase. As a result, I was charged an extra €0.35 (5.04-4.69). Does anyone have an explanation for these extra fees?

OP2 years agoI'm not making a fuss, I just want to understand why these fees when I didn't sell anything; in my view, I shouldn't have any fees on a sale that wasn't completed/cancelled... it could have been 1 cent, I would have asked the same question 🙂 everyone is free to want to understand things even if that seems futile to you in this case.

you're on ebay, the logic is ebay's logic
the mistake is yours, you made an item appear that you had already sold, the site did its job, it found you a customer, a customer whose hopes were disappointed, in short the penalty, however small, is justified

OP2 years agoI did make it clear in "my" logic and not "the" logic in a general sense; my request is just to understand these fees, which aren't explained in the transaction details. It’s true the mistake was mine, I agree with you I should have deleted the listing here when I sold it elsewhere, but I wasn’t aware of this kind of fee for a cancellation; now I am, so no problem. The penalty is justified, that depends on your point of view, on other similar sites to eBay that let buyers/sellers connect, there aren’t necessarily fees for sales/purchase cancellations, so in my opinion no, it’s not necessarily justified, but if for people like you it seems normal to be charged for this kind of thing, good for eBay 🙂

- ending a sale before it expires and especially with a bidder can lead you to pay a % to the site as a penalty for having given a bad experience to the buyer who was ousted.
The amount you have to pay corresponds to the fixed part of the commission (0,35 €) and not to the variable part (% of the amount of the highest bid)...

OP2 years agoGood evening, thanks for the link, I only do buy it now sales without auctions/offers so I shouldn’t have this issue, indeed I read via the links I was given why the amount is 0.35, since it’s the fixed amount per order and as I’m the one who initiated the cancellation, it isn’t refunded.

it's not normal for people like us, that's just how it is, it's due to ebay's rules that you agreed to when you opened your account
for the rest, this lack of consideration toward people is in the air these days
imagine that you find an item and click on it your money is tied up and not necessarily available for another purchase
you disappoint a customer who won't come back, so make yourself be more rigorous
