I’m not suggesting any article to send internationally
Summary: rop1955 shares an unpleasant experience of international selling on eBay, explaining how the high fees reduced his profits to almost nothing. An Australian buyer wanted a specific tool, but shipping costs and eBay’s commissions greatly cut into the gain. flashs92 understands the situation and explains that eBay’s policy is intended to prevent sellers from abusing shipping fees. felin12 suggests setting delivery exclusions to avoid international sales, which rop1955 is considering doing in the future to avoid situations like this.
Mostly, I don't want to sell for international shipping
here is my latest experience. August 2023
I had an item, a specific tool (a wrench) which, packed, did not exceed 500 grams
Its price was 10 euros. Shipping costs in France offered at 4 euros
An Australian absolutely wants this tool to repair an old Citroën vehicle. Actual international Colissimo shipping cost for 500 grams 29.55 euros (I tell him 30 euros)
Which makes a total of 40 euros plus 4 extra euros (GST) for import fees
Amount collected by eBay from the buyer
For the commission calculation, eBay takes 6.49 euros. It therefore reimburses me 33.51 euros. You deduct 30 euros that you have duly paid to the post office. This sale brought me 3.51 euros on the 10 euros.
The moral of the story is, I won't be selling internationally anymore
A long time ago, the fees only applied to the sale result but, because of crooks who minimized the sale price and greatly inflated the shipping fees, the majority of honest sellers pay the consequences

@rop1955
To avoid selling internationally, it’s best to exclude shipping locations.
Go to "account settings" then "delivery preferences" and check the boxes under "exclude delivery locations"

OP3 years agoThat's what I usually do, but the buyer insisted so much because he needed this specific key. I wouldn't do it again. Thanks for your offer

·3 years agoYou have to understand eBay
there were items at €0.01 with shipping costs of €10.00, that couldn’t last.
Now you know that when you give a shipping fee amount, you have to add to the actual fee the commission that eBay will take on that amount.

OP3 years agoI understand, but it penalizes honest sellers
