Problem with a double sale on eBay
Summary: beorix sells an item on eBay that is then duplicated, leading the platform to demand a double commission. Despite contacting customer support, the situation is not resolved, and eBay announces a withdrawal of the full sale amount after one of the sales is canceled. beorix blocks this withdrawal, trying to avoid losing both the sold item and the payment received. A misunderstanding seems to persist around the cancellation process, which could cause additional financial complications.
Hello everyone
I put an item up for sale that was sold, but for some reason, at one point, this item was duplicated. Maybe it was a mistake on my part, by clicking the wrong box, or a site bug; either way, eBay thinks I had 2 items for sale and is asking me for 2 commissions (one of which has already been taken from the sale of the item, plus another to be taken from my bank account!)
So I call eBay, and I end up with someone (foreign?) who is a bit stubborn and of course doesn’t understand the situation at all and tells me to simply delete one of the 2 sales, which I do.
According to him, that was supposed to fix the situation, except that in the evening I receive an email from eBay telling me that tomorrow they will withdraw the full amount of the payment that was made to me for the item I sold..
I should point out that I of course shipped this item as soon as payment was received from the buyer.
So there, ok, I no longer have any fees to pay (apparently) but I lose the sold item plus the payment that had been made, unless I manage to block the withdrawal tomorrow.
At this point I no longer know what to do.

OP1 year agoIt’s not easy to clearly explain what happened, basically, I sold an item, which I shipped and which was paid for. On top of that, for some reason I don’t understand, a bug? anyway, a 2nd identical item, with the same number! came to be added to the list of sold items..
The problem is that Ebay actually thinks there were 2 identical items (!), and so wanted to charge me a 2nd commission on the 2nd imaginary sale. So I called Ebay customer service, who told me to simply delete one of the 2 sales (one of which is totally unreal, I should point out, since I only listed ONE item), and that after that the fees would disappear.
So I deleted one of the 2 sales in the list.
And then, oh surprise, following that action, I receive an email from Ebay telling me there would be a debit from my account the next day for the amount that had been credited to me today, since I had cancelled the sale...
So yes, I cancelled the sale following the phone call with the advisor, but in no case should that have caused a debit of the sum I received, since:
1 - I did indeed send the item that the buyer will receive tomorrow morning
2- there had never been more than one item for sale, and the amount I received matches what I sold
So tonight I blocked the scheduled debit, and I’m waiting for explanations from Ebay tomorrow morning on the phone.
I didn’t have a choice, because if I let it go through, I lost the jacket plus its payment.

well, eBay will just block your account, that’s all
when you cancel an auction sale, the site considers that you sold it and that you owe the commission

OP1 year agoExcept that I’ve already paid the commission..
There, it’s not the commission they want to remove, it’s the total amount!
The buyer has indeed confirmed receipt, and on top of that, he’s going to be refunded..
If I understood the eBay advisor correctly, that falls under the buyer’s refund process if the sale is canceled, even accidentally as was the case for me.
The problem is that this will force the buyer to send me back that amount via Paypal once he’s been refunded!
What a mess, all the same, for an unfortunate mistake, so easy to verify.
Anyway, on my side, I’m continuing to block eBay withdrawals as long as I don’t have absolute certainty of being paid, which the eBay agent also advised me to do.

·1 year agoGood evening @beorix
Your explanations (a little confusing), as well as the sparse information on your account that forum members can access (which does not show any double sale), do not make it possible to know the ins and outs, so the best thing is to call customer service again tomorrow to go over things with them.
Kind regards
