empower buyers
Summary: stocksession1 criticizes eBay's practice of allowing buyers to easily cancel their purchases, even in auctions where that is not supposed to be legally allowed. This harms the integrity of auctions and quickly "burns" resold items. felin12 explains how online auctions work, where buyers and sellers are not required to complete a sale. jano.630 highlights a new order-cancellation feature on eBay, criticizing its impact on respect and politeness between sellers and buyers, leaving aside those who cancel without communication. The discussion revolves around buyer accountability and retention.
Hello, in the antiques category, how is it that eBay continues to offer a "buyer" the option to cancel their purchase when the auction law is clear and specific, and this is called "shill bidding" and not without reason (see the law article). We know very well that relisting an item that was already sold at auction the week before is not at all a good idea, the item is "burned" and almost unsellable, especially if the bids had soared the first time. Letting fake buyers bid while knowing they can cancel their commitment completely distorts the spirit of auctions. Sometimes it happens that we get a little carried away with a purchase, that we spend more than expected (and even more than we would have spent on an immediate purchase) but generally in the end we are happy anyway because it is an item we really loved. It is good to keep a little madness, in any case it is healthier than being constantly let off the hook, but unfortunately that is the way of the times so let us have no word and let us teach it to our children.
Kind regards
Chriss

·2 years agoHello
there’s some news about order cancellations
I’m putting the thread link here since we can’t reply to it
https://communaute.ebay.fr/t5/Actualit%C3%A9s-eBay/Nous-simplifions-l-annulation-des-commandes/ba-p/2946326
Cool, nice, a good, very impersonal order-cancellation form that will allow, if I understand correctly, buyers to cancel their purchases more easily, and that will help build buyer loyalty
through a better buying experience ........ lol
Who do they think they’re kidding?
Loyalty from bad payers who are experts in forms?
As for me, buyers who send me a message explaining
why they want to cancel even though they’ve just paid, no problem at all with them +++
On the other hand, those who cancel through the form and don’t even have the courtesy
to send a message because they probably don’t know what the words "respect" and "politeness" mean
( Critics will say they’re within their rights, that it’s the law .... )
Ok, I won’t argue with that )
===> On the other hand, they’re immediately "loyal" in my list of banned buyers ....

For information:
What is an online auction?
The seller is free to choose their buyer, so it is not automatically the last bidder who wins the sale. Buyer and seller remain free to contract on the terms they wish. Thus, when the auction closes, the transfer of ownership of the item is not automatic and the price may be renegotiated. Neither the buyer nor the seller is bound by their initial offers.
As a result, the site does not guarantee that the transaction will go through and therefore plays only a limited role in putting people in contact. Potential seller and buyer have the option to back out and therefore do not have the certainty of a deal being concluded.
