Concretely, how much do we make from a sale?
Summary: edyalen-0 expresses confusion after his first sale on eBay, wondering why it seems like he’s getting less than expected after VAT and tax deductions. *miss-tigri* explains that typical fees include a 10% commission and fixed fees, and mentions that shipping costs must be paid directly by the seller. edyalen-0 then asks about using the Packlink service for shipping labels, and koalagris replies by pointing out the potential risk of extra costs and suggests using Mondial Relay directly. koalagris finally reminds everyone that it’s essential to read the terms of use before selling.
I’ve just made my first sale on Ebay, but absolutely nothing seems clear to me...
I sold a large item for 32 euros, with shipping costs set at 12 euros, so the buyer paid 44 euros in total.
When I go to my account balance, it shows 44 euros, and when I go to the transaction details, they subtract "VAT and taxes," which would make 39.07 euros.
But I did sell my item for 32 euros, right? And as for the shipping fees, when I print my label, will 12 euros be deducted from my balance? But from which balance? 44 euros or 39.07 euros? Because if it’s 39.07 - 12 euros, that’s a bit poor.
I don’t understand any of it. With competitors, it’s a lot less confusing than this. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ebay deducts the total item + shipping - commission fees (knowing that the seller advances the shipping costs).
Private seller, in general fees level: 10% of the total including shipping + €0.35 (varies depending on the categories//the amount, and not counting any sponsorship fees and/or paid listing options)
So, "concretely" it's impossible to answer precisely: it depends on your selling choices/the type of item/its value, so you absolutely need to read the terms of use carefully (preferably BEFORE listing it for sale)...

what you'll receive: 44 - 10% (4.40)-0.35 ( fixed fees ) = 39.25
As for shipping costs, you pay them directly to the carrier, you are not required to go through packlink (in fact, it's even not recommended).

·3 months agoWith packlink, you expose yourself to possible package surcharges (see forum), and on top of that if something goes wrong you don't have control because you are not the holder of the shipping label.
Especially since you get the same EB/MR rates by going directly through MR (and by importing eBay orders there):
