In the end, the seller always pays fees... and even more than before!
I was glad to read that there were no more fees to pay on eBay sales....actually it's more complicated than that!!
Before, I would get an offer at 100 and I paid the eBay fees: eBay sent me the balance.
Now eBay says it's free and that there are just buyer protection fees (paid by the buyer). That's relatively false: the buyer still wants to pay 100 euros in total and eBay tells me on the offers made on the items that I will receive the balance between the 100-euro offer and the seller protection fees.
To sum it up simply (the figures are illustrative and do not correspond to the exact percentages):
before: I was given 100 euros and I paid 5 euros in fees, so a total in my pocket of 95 euros.
now: the buyer makes an offer of 100 euros which includes the protection fees (it doesn't change anything for their habits...), eBay keeps 5 euros for the protection fees and transfers me 95 euros "net" of fees.
In the end it doesn't change a thing and I still pay the eBay fees either directly or net, but it's not the buyer who pays more, it's the seller who receives less than before.
So, given the many promotions we had on sales (-70% on fees, -60% etc....) they used to make the seller earn more money than now where the fees are displayed as nonexistent... In the end, I'll make my sales and earn less money than before. That's a weird gift!!
