good evening everyone,
I had been selling for some time now a batch of brand-new Opinel knives that I wasn’t using, and a few old knives, some of them advertising ones, and only this week I receive a message telling me that my listing was removed for “violation of the rules,” oddly enough if I type “Opinel knives,” I find quite a few that are still up for sale, mine are not combat knives, but more like knives for cutting salad, like my grandmother used to do...
either the AI got its wires crossed, wouldn’t surprise me if that’s it... or else they picked a random listing, mine, and nuked it...
have other sellers already had the same problem?

·5 months agoFor me this isn’t an AI problem, because all the listings with the word OPINEL would be blocked as soon as they were put up for sale, and not after a few days. You probably have a "friend" who means well and reports to the platform that you posted a listing for a prohibited item.
I regularly get the short end of the stick because of it. I posted listings for traps and they were blocked after a few days, even though there were others for sale.
Same thing with PHOTO magazines, even though there were dozens of them, and even packs of troop cigarettes that were about sixty years old.
To get to the bottom of it, I decided to report two listings from someone who was selling PHOTO magazines, and I realized that the listings I had just reported were removed, and not all of his listings for that magazine.
Proof if proof were needed that your listings are removed because of reports. Probably someone who doesn’t like you and enjoys causing you trouble. What a wonderful thing anonymity is

yes, but I couldn’t find the answer, I can clearly see there are restrictions, but why do other listings still show up anyway, Opinel is Opinel and not classified as a "weapon of war" as far as I last heard!!!

When a question raises a real problem (I’d even say a malfunction), like this one, ebay sends us to the forum. And on the forum an "ebay member" tells us "You need to deal directly with customer service".
Something is escaping me!?
I’m a collector of pocket knives, Opinels and others, and I follow listings for several days and place bids, and after a few days, or even the day before the listings end, they get removed. When I contact the sellers, they say their listing was removed because it doesn’t comply with the rules. Yet this listing was strictly identical to thousands of other listings for knives that are still up.
An explanation for the removal is given, but there’s no explanation for the fact that thousands of others stay up.
I have a favorite seller with several thousand transactions whose listings are very often removed, even though he has no problems with other identical listings.
An explanation?

I now think that it must not be “someone” doing the deleting, but their “AI” that must be going off the rails!!!
They must have lists of objects and if some photos come close enough to them, the ads get deleted; they must also have cut staff and are relying on AI, Opinel = weapon of war??? There must have been a good few warriors among the old-timers who all had one in their pocket...
I think we’re not done having problems of this kind.

Using the community forum is simply suggested at the bottom of the help pages, just like the option to contact customer service (that in no way means the forum replaces customer service).

Exactly, for anything that requires access to the ebay account or specific actions, which is in itself perfectly logical. Same for topics on which ebay never communicates (like the criteria for awarding promos, for example).
We can only answer general questions//pass on the T&Cs or similar threads//advise on certain procedures.
So your favorite seller will have to take the necessary steps with the site...

·5 months agoHello, I luckily have the answer to your issue, this comes from the regulations specific to your location (or to the marketplace on which you sell), well if it's another seller who sells the same knives but doesn't have an ad removal I can't do anything about it, but depending on the country or even the State (United States) where you live, the rules for listings are not always the same.
And don't forget that putting a product up for sale on ebay.fr or ebay.com makes a big difference, it's not the same regulations, not the same staff and not the same audience
