I find that the customers you come across on Ebay are generally serious. A few years ago I had bought and sold 5-6 items (movie or show tickets in particular) on LBC, but it put me off. Sad to say, but the people I dealt with on that platform were really thick. On ebay, people pay quickly and everything goes well 95% of the time. In any case, compared with what I sell.
Except that for the past few months, I feel like there are more and more people (often with 0 or very few ratings) who make offers, I accept them or they’re automatically accepted and then they stop giving any sign of life or immediately ask to cancel the sale.
This week, I once again had the buyer who makes an offer on a doll I was selling and doesn’t pay. There was automatic acceptance. As soon as I clicked on "request payment," it got a reaction out of her and she writes to me that she didn’t buy this doll!! It really annoyed me because 1) it was a disappointment even though it was a big amount (95€), 2) this amount is going to be counted in ebay’s annual summary for taxes, 3) her explanation is ridiculous 4) no apologies or polite request to cancel.
After several email exchanges, she agrees to apologize and to request the cancellation of the sale, and she explains to me that she didn’t think making an offer to the seller could trigger a sale! Because she does the same thing on Ebay’s competitor specialized in clothes. I’ve never sold or bought there, but I feel sorry for the sellers!
I don’t offer payment by bank transfer or by check, so I think Ebay should require immediate payment when a buyer clicks Buy It Now or when they make an offer that falls within automatic acceptance. Or else a 30-minute delay, for example. If payment is not made in that case, the sale should not go through.

I 1000% agree ... and that's saying something! All my listings ( another seller account ) are buy-it-now and I accept offers with no floor price, which is pretty funny sometimes.
Like @kilorahoy I've seen all sorts of oddballs pop up - probably spring ... - who negotiate ( that's the point of offers ), get what they want ( meaning in the end I'm okay with it or it's better than nothing ) and ... don't pay, don't ask for a cancellation, don't जवाब to messages - not too harsh so as not to bruise their ego - to find out what they plan to do, ... it's a pain. Forced to wait the damn 4 days so I can cancel it myself and relist and not forget to ban the username ...
That said, we can always take comfort in saying it's still better than an abusive return, whose hardcore version can mean the swiping of the coveted item - sold, shipped and therefore received by the recipient -, the return of a similar or even different item in bad condition and eBay* ruling in the buyer's favor with return shipping at my expense, mandatory refund thrown in, account penalty, tomato etc ... Yep yep ... it's happened to me ... Plus the item and not the money ... volunteer almost philanthropic, really ...
* you can still provide all the photos you want while swearing on your children's heads that they sent you back a pickaxe when you sold a shovel, it makes no difference ... the buyer is right, end of story.
This level of cynicism and dehumanization fascinates me as much as it frightens me!

- In the listing form, all you need to do is check the box " immediate payment required "

and if it still doesn’t work, have customer service at Ebay call you from the bottom of the page
