20% VAT block (Import): My account is still 100% based in France
Summary: netfix42 is having a problem with eBay regarding 20% VAT being automatically applied to the items he sells, even though his account and items are based in France. He checked that all location settings correctly show France. francexpressdeal suggested checking whether he is actually logged in to ebay.fr when viewing the items, because on that site the display shows the correct price of €54.90. netfix42 is looking for advice on how to resolve this VAT inconsistency.
Hello everyone,
I’m asking for your help because I’m blocked when it comes to launching my business (Netfix).
The problem: Every time I create a listing, eBay automatically applies 20% VAT, which gets added to my selling price (e.g.: a screen entered at €54.90 shows up at €65.88 for the buyer).
Checks I’ve already done:
-
I use the standard/pro selling form.
-
My account, return, and shipping addresses are all in France.
-
In the listing, the 'Item location' field is correctly set to my city and France.
-
The country of origin in the item specifics is also set to France.
Despite this, the line 'VAT (if applicable): 20%' remains active in my price settings. It looks like eBay is treating me as a seller outside the EU, even though my stock and I are in France.
Has anyone ever run into this kind of incorrect 'automatic collection' issue? Is there a specific service to contact to validate my business establishment in France and remove this tax?
Thanks in advance for your expertise!
