broken lamp glass found after the courier left, no damage to the package
Summary: d.creation explains that they shipped a lamp to Australia with extra insurance via Happy Post. The outer package was intact, but the customer reported a broken glass inside. jacquelinedu36 suggests asking for a photo and considering a partial refund. lingma85 mentions that if no reservation was made upon receipt, the seller could be held responsible, and eBay might refund the buyer. It is pointed out that the insurance may not cover internal damage. frelonverre insists that the seller is responsible for the packaging. d.creation has requested compensation from Happy Post.
Hello, I sent a lamp to Australia via HAPPY post with additional insurance. The buyer made no reservations on the delivery note because the box was in good condition. He reports a broken glass upon opening. I have made a claim with Happy post to be compensated. What will eBAY's position be? I fear that the buyer will be blamed for not having added any mention such as "subject to unpacking" on the delivery note? There is also a risk of breakage after opening the parcel due to mishandling, so I fear the insurance will refuse to pay out. What is your advice in such a situation? Thank you very much Kind regards

well, to sum it up, you "sit on it"
the seller is responsible for their shipments, the carrier is just a service provider, you are the one placing the order

·2 years agoHello @d.creation
If the box is in good condition... and if the buyer did not make any reservation at the time of delivery...
- you are considered responsible for the breakage for not having protected the glassware enough.
The fact of assuming that the breakage took place after the parcel was opened is not taken into account because it is only an assumption with no proof, unfortunately.
Your carrier will not compensate you.. and eBay will side with the buyer if they open a dispute for item not as described and refund them.
The only possible outcome will therefore be a full or partial refund of the transaction, to be discussed courteously with your buyer...

·2 years agoHi again @d.creation
I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed by the answer your carrier gives you...
Indeed, the insurance you took out should only cover external issues with the parcel, such as damage caused by your carrier, that is to say ---> crushed or dented packaging... // lost parcel... etc... and, above all, issues reported by the recipient...
But in no case will breakage revealed inside the parcel itself, which remains entirely your responsibility, be taken into account by any carrier at all..
They will certainly dodge responsibility by saying that you didn’t protect/secure the items inside well enough, which allowed the glassware to break... and that the recipient accepted the parcel without making any specific remark. Therefore, they are not responsible...
Kind regards

·2 years agoHello,
Already ask him for a photo of the broken item > try compensation anyway if you took the insurance
Then see with your buyer about a partial refund
