150 cm LxWxH delivery constraint via Colissimo on eBay
Summary: rikko14 explains having run into a problem when sending a package that exceeds the standard 150 cm dimensions by La Poste instead of Mondial Relay, which led to higher fees. Other participants, such as felin12 and koalagris, confirm that La Poste also imposes similar size limits, but suggest options to go up to 2 meters for an additional charge. koalagris and noctisauxroses also debate the competence of La Poste employees with regard to these dimensional criteria. The discussion includes suggestions for alternative carriers for larger parcels.
Hello,
I just sold an item whose parcel dimensions exceed 150cm in LxWxH.
Usually I send all my parcels via Mondial Relay unless the buyer specifically requests otherwise.
I sent the parcel by Colissimo directly at the post office and not by ordering the shipping label via Ebay because it exceeded 150 cm. I had to pay €39.40 in shipping fees instead of ~ €15 if I had gone through Ebay. However, I don't understand why at La Poste they don't have this 150 cm restriction, only the 30 kg restriction. Also, for next time if this happens to me and I need to send parcels of more than 150 cm in LxWxH, is it possible to buy the shipping label via Ebay and drop off the parcel at the post office rather than at a Colissimo relay point? Thank you for your help.

·3 years agoGood evening everyone,
for an extra charge,
A Colissimo can be up to L x W x H up to 200 cm,
Including for international shipping,
It's a very useful service for paintings, for example,

·3 years agoGood evening,
For a size greater than 150cm, you have to go through the post office as mentioned (go through a sorting center, they are more flexible on pricing), and ask for a rate for a non-mechanizable parcel (manual processing).
A non-mechanizable parcel must have the following maximum dimensions: 200cm (L+w+h).
If your item exceeds these dimensions, see whether you can’t dismantle a few parts to reduce the height, for example.
Otherwise, for larger dimensions, there are carriers such as: GLS, Chronopost (Chrono13), TNT for example; they often have ultra-competitive rates for private individuals.

·3 years agoFake...
Whether by La Poste (Colissimo) or by Mondial Relay, the maximum length is 150 cm
The only difference between the two is that La Poste accepts an oversize package, but charges very dearly for it, whereas Mondial Relay does not accept it.
See the Colissimo La Poste rules...

Why make it seem like the info given by @frelonverre would be false...?

oversized dimensions up to 2 m are charged 6.50 euros more than the 150 cm

·3 years agoHello @frelonverre
You are indeed right, as indicated here----> What are the authorized dimensions for letters and Colissimo parcels? - Laposte.fr Online Help
Kind regards

·3 years agoHello @rikko14
You're mistaken: Colissimo parcels are also subject to this same 150cm limit (length + width + thickness), سواء at the counter or at a post office point.
On the other hand, La Poste offers an option (for a fee, of course) to increase the combined dimensions to 2m, or else Chronopost with a maximum combined dimensions of 3m.
All of this is indicated on La Poste's website... It was up to you to get the information before putting your item up for sale in order to indicate the correct shipping rate.
Regards
(P.S. : no preferential rates between laposte and ebay, so going through the site changes nothing)

·3 years agoHello everyone
@rikko14
La Poste has the same constraints for dimensions:

OP3 years agoOk, strange because the 2 post office agents (one when getting the info, the other today when I dropped off my parcel) told me they didn’t have the 150 cm limit, only the 30 kg one..

·3 years agohello @koalagris
replacements or incompetent ???
You're being a little harsh with the postal workers.
There are cases that are rare and exceptional like Rikko14's, so they forget how to handle these cases.
It's like when you're learning a language and you don't get to practice it for a few years. The day you face it again, you've forgotten a good part of what you knew.
Same with code you don't use for a while.
That said, there are still a few incompetent people at the post office
koalagris
·3 years agoGood evening @flashs92
It still seems to me that it is their job...
from there, it is not acceptable that they dare tell a customer that there are no size constraints, because that is still the ABCs of shipping, which any experienced seller knows full well.
I stand by what I said and maintain that this is total incompetence on the part of a La Poste employee to respond like that, and I fully stand by these remarks 😉
Best regards

yes, that's true, it's his job and he's supposed to know it
but I forgive more easily in this kind of rare case
than in everyday cases
Have a good evening
noctisauxroses
·3 years agoWell, cases like this aren't that rare, it's easy to reach a length of 150 if you want 5/6 cm protection margins on each side for a fragile object, it's happened to me several times.
If it doesn't exceed a small ten cm or so, Mondial Relay turns a blind eye if the parcel is well packed and not too heavy.
On the other hand, at La Poste, they measure your parcels, and they charge you as soon as the first cm is over ^^ Basically, they're digging their own grave with expertise^^
