International shipping, package stuck in customs
Summary: naramar28 shared an issue concerning the shipment of an item sold to Mexico, held up in customs at Roissy for 'missing documents'. They are following Ebay Shipping procedures but are facing a back-and-forth between Ebay, Chronopost, and Ebay's international service to resolve the incident. frelonverre advised intervening directly with customs to identify and provide the missing documents, while osplit suggested limiting sales to the European Union to avoid such customs issues. naramar28 believes the product's Chinese origin may be the cause of the problem and plans to contact customs to clarify the situation.
I am a private individual, and I had listed an item from my collection for sale. The item was sold to someone living in Mexico. I followed Ebay Shipping instructions to the letter: I printed 3 copies of the customs documents, as well as a copy of my ID, in order to attach them to the package. When I dropped off the package at the Chronopost counter in my post office, the agent checked the documents, said it was ok, and put them in a transparent pouch, stuck onto the package.
But as soon as it arrived in Roissy, the package was blocked at export by customs for "missing documents". I spent a day calling and sending emails...
Chronopost sends me back to Ebay.
Ebay sends me back to Chronopost.
Chronopost sends me back to Ebay's shipping service (Packlink).
Ebay's shipping service sends me back to Ebay.
Ebay sends me back to Ebay International.
Do you have any advice for getting this package unstuck?
Thanks.

I’d tell you that you shouldn’t have gone through Packlink, but it’s too late
my advice is to check with customs which documents are missing and provide them

OP10 months agoHello!
So, to be honest, I don't really know Ebay that well and I don't remember having a choice. There was a "print shipping label" button or something like that, so I just followed the steps!
I'm going to try contacting customs directly, thanks for the tip!

next time go to the post office website, or there too you can print the shipping label
eBay has passed off shipping with Packlink so there’s nothing to expect from them as for this
company, it’s below all expectations

OP10 months agoOh darn, I had no idea at all 😞
I blindly followed the instructions without realizing that I could go through another platform for shipping. But well, that wouldn’t necessarily have prevented customs from blocking the package for "incorrect documents"...
I’ll be more careful in the future.
PS. I opened a claim with customs, since phone contacts don’t seem to work on Saturdays.
Thanks.

Thanks for sharing! I looked through the forum, but the case here is different.
The package measures 27x26x18 so it is labeled with a standard shipping label for parcels, and the tracking number is in the XF---------FR format.
Moreover, it is blocked by customs for "incorrect documents (value, goods description...)" whereas, as mentioned in my initial message, I provided the customs documents sent by Ebay/Packlink, and they were validated by the Chronopost agent to whom I handed over the package!
So it is not blocked by La Poste for "non-compliant postage"!
I "only" have a problem with customs and the different services passing the buck 😞

·10 months agoHello important advice:
- Limit yourself to shipping within the European Union, no customs or declaration. much less risky than sending to Mexico.
- I know that now, when writing an ad on ebay, it becomes more and more complicated and I would even say for a regular user of the site.
- Why make things simple by complicating them!!
have you stated the country of origin of your sales! on the customs form.
( good luck to you)
