Limiting sales to 18.33% of my capacity despite the Basic Shop subscription: Is this fair
Summary: planetejava expresses concerns about reduced selling limits on their eBay account despite a paid subscription, attributing these restrictions to a high cancellation rate due to stockouts. lingma85 highlights the challenges of selling unique products across multiple platforms and suggests contacting an eBay manager for assistance. Anonymous User advises improving the visual presentation of listings to strengthen the shop’s identity. The discussion focuses on the difficulties of inventory management and the fairness of the limitations imposed by eBay.
Hello everyone,
I find myself in a situation that seems unfair to me regarding the selling limits on my eBay account, and I’d like to get your feedback and advice.
I’m subscribed to the "Basic Store" plan at €19.50 per month, which would normally allow me to list up to 300 Fixed Price items without insertion fees. Yet, because of certain recent restrictions, I’m limited to only 55 items per month, which is about 18.33% of my expected capacity, while still paying the same monthly fee.
I understand that these restrictions are probably related to order cancellations due to out-of-stock issues, which pushed my defect rate above the allowed 2%. Between October 2023 and today (02/10/2024), I sold 70 products, 7 of which were canceled because they were out of stock, which works out to a 10% cancellation rate of sales. However, it seems unfair to me to have to keep paying for a full subscription for selling capacity reduced to this extent.
I contacted customer service to ask for a review of the selling limits, or at least an adjustment to the monthly fee, but I haven’t received a satisfactory response yet. This situation is difficult because, even with efforts to improve my inventory management, it’s impossible for me to increase my sales volume if I’m limited in the number of items I can list.
Have you ever been faced with a situation like this with eBay? How did you manage to negotiate an increase in the limits or an adjustment to the fee? Do you think there are specific actions to take to get things moving?
Thanks in advance for your replies and help. I hope this discussion can shed light not only on my situation, but also on that of all sellers who find themselves in similar situations.

·1 year agoHello, possible advice: for your photos, you need to find a background that is representative of your shop, like Unity, Unique.
Unlike a lot of advice heard on eBay, it's not so much the clutter that can be bothersome, but the lack of harmony.
Best regards

·2 years agoHello @planetejava
Being professional and being limited in the number of listings is certainly deplorable....
- but this is what is surprising------> "Between October 2023 and today (02/10/2024), I sold 70 products, of which 7 were canceled due to stock shortages"
Looking at what you're listing... how can you be out of stock... ??
Your items are collectibles, antiques and/or jewelry... so unique items...
- if you sell on several platforms, you need to avoid listing the same items everywhere if you only have one of each.... It requires constant monitoring, difficult to manage... and certainly generating problems like the ones you described..
