tax number, length
Summary: rosedebretagne wonders why their tax number has 14 digits instead of the usual 13 for individuals in France. They’re worried this format will cause problems on eBay, which seems to accept only 13 digits. francexpressdeal replies by explaining that the 14-digit tax number is used for professionals and corresponds to the SIRET number. They add that eBay classifies all businesses as "legal entities" and asks for the SIREN. francexpressdeal acknowledges that this problem has been ongoing for about two years and encourages sharing any solution found.
hello,
has anyone ever had this problem and could explain it please?
let's take the current tax, since today is the deadline to pay, the CFE. on the notice, my tax no. has ... 14 digits! yet everyone knows a tax no. has 13 and starts with the old SIRET no., which is essentially three sets of 3 digits = 9, to which a suffix starting with zeros has been added.
why is this question posted here? it's to know whether this could cause a problem on eBay, whose tax no. field logically only has room for 13 characters.
thanks in advance for your experience on this subject.

·9 months agoHello @rosedebretagne
the 13-digit tax number applies only to individuals.
For professionals, on the CFE notice, the tax number shown has 14 digits because it is our SIRET.
In terms of French regulations:
https://www.economie.gouv.fr/cedef/les-fiches-pratiques/quest-ce-que-le-nif
https://bofip.impots.gouv.fr/bofip/11549-PGP.html/identifiant=BOI-INT-AEA-20-30-20200720#2._Les_numeros_didentificat_33
"Note : In France, the NIF is the tax reference number or SPI number for individuals, and the SIREN number for legal entities."
Depending on your company status, you may be considered either a legal entity or a natural person (which is the case for micro-enterprises).
But ebay makes no distinction and puts all professionals under the term "legal entities". In fact, the tax number to enter on the site is the SIREN:
https://www.ebay.fr/help/selling/selling/directive-dac7-de-lue-et-loi-sur-la-transparence-fiscale-des-plateformes-%E2%80%93-obligations-en-matire-de-dclaration-des-ventes?id=5394&st=3&pos=4&query=Directive%20DAC7%20de%20l%27UE%20et%20loi%20sur%20la%20transparence%20fiscale%20des%20plateformes%20%E2%80%93%20Obligations%20en%20mati%C3%A8re%20de%20d%C3%A9claration%20des%20ventes&intent=dac7&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1733
But if we want to enter the SIREN, here is what it looks like:
It has been almost 2 years since this problem was reported...
So if you manage to get a clear answer on this subject, don't hesitate to post it here.
