refund as a seller?
Summary: nascarvintage17 is worried about eBay refund procedures if a parcel gets lost and wonders whether they should refund the customer or let eBay handle it. *miss-tigri* explains that in the event of a loss, the customer is refunded with the money held from the sale, and the seller can be compensated by the carrier if the item is insured. nascarvintage17 confirms that they insure their parcels and understands that it is the postal service, not eBay, that reimburses the seller. frelonverre warns about possible complications with shipments to the United States, where tracking stops at customs and a dispute could be opened before the loss is confirmed.
Hello everyone!
so here's my question:
So far everything has gone well, but I would rather anticipate: let's imagine a package I send gets lost or doesn't arrive to the customer for whatever reason, how should we proceed with the refund?
I mean, if I take the initiative to refund the customer once I have confirmation that the package is indeed lost, will eBay reimburse me for my "loss"? Or should I let eBay handle the refund? And as the seller, I shouldn't do the refund myself (I'm a bit lost in all this, honestly
thanks in advance

In case of loss, there is a procedure to follow:

the buyer will be refunded with the money held from your sale and you will be compensated by the carrier up to the amount of the insurance taken out ..
So it's better to properly insure valuable items if you don't want to lose out😉

OP1 year agoah okay so an example: ( I go through the post office I actually insure each package because my customer is 100% US ! so if she gets lost let’s imagine the money from the sale goes back to the customer (normal) but for me it’s not eBay but the post office that reimburses me if I on my side chose to insure x or y package? that’s right? eBay they don’t reimburse the seller in case of theft or loss we agree?

I go through the post office; I do indeed insure every package because my client is 100% US
The problem with the US is that tracking stops at US customs and that your buyer will have opened a dispute and may be refunded before knowing whether the parcel is lost or stolen
then you'll have to battle with the post office
