Secured a sale
Summary: dj-shadow is trying to secure the sale of a valuable item worth between 6,000 and 10,000 euros to avoid claims like "empty box" or "defective item." koalagris and lingma85 recommend an in-person handover with on-site inspection to ensure the transaction, while frelonverre suggests going through an auction house. Other participants, such as *miss-tigri* and monoiehaka, express concerns about selling on eBay because of the high risk of fraud. Finally, nareio points out that at this price level, buyers generally want to see the item in person.
I need to put an item up for sale whose value will probably be between 6,000 and 10,000 euros.
How can I secure the sale so that the buyer doesn't claim something like "empty box" or "defective item"
Thanks!

Agreed with what was said above. Also, as an honest and savvy buyer, at that price, I want to see what I’m buying, especially if it’s a “used” item or an old object. So many fewer reliable potential buyers.....
Best regards.

if you want to secure your sale, put it in the auction room

You're asking------> " How to secure the sale so that the buyer doesn't come up with an argument like a "empty box" or "defective item" "
Solution------> put it up for sale with in-person handover.... and on site, full inspection + the buyer's declaration that everything is perfect...
Sending it by post is risky even with ad valorem insurance, which will only protect you for the package itself and not against possible bad faith on the part of the buyer about what the said package contains...
For something of that value, be more than careful, especially in the periods leading up to Christmas, when smart alecks are rampant online...

Zero risk doesn’t exist.
Nor is there any miracle recipe to stop a buyer from using eBay’s buyer protection if they feel like it.
Especially for this kind of amount, and as a very occasional seller after such a long period of inactivity (your funds will be held for at least 14 days, provided your registration as a seller is completed: identity check + IBAN).
