A hint of a scam
Summary: la_gerbille expressed concerns about a recent sale on eBay, where a buyer requested delivery to Germany, then to France, with unusual payment conditions. Doubts remain despite the payment received, because the buyer has a private profile and a history of suspicious bidding. Several participants, such as francexpressdeal and noctisauxroses, advise caution, recommending verifying payments through eBay to avoid scams, while suggesting that canceling the sale is a wise option. la_gerbille is hesitating between canceling the transaction or continuing, seeking to better understand eBay’s policies and the potential risks.

·3 years agoHello everyone
@la_gerbille
I agree with the explanations that were given to you by @francexpressdeal
about how the events of this transaction unfolded.
If you need a bit more peace of mind to finalize the transaction.
Cover the difference in shipping costs yourself and send it by registered Colissimo
Kind regards

·3 years agoWe are missing many details to understand your story...
... You misconfigured your account
... You authorized it to buy, without entering the shipping costs for its country
On the other hand, can someone explain to me how you can still receive payments directly into your personal PayPal by going through Ebay?
la_gerbille
OP3 years agoIt was a 7-day auction and the 2 bidders only started outbidding each other in the last hour, or even the last 15 minutes. So there was nothing I could do to control anything, unfortunately. On top of that, the person never let me know during those 7 days that they wanted delivery to Germany and that the option wasn’t available on my item, though that seems logical to me, no ?
And no I never gave my PayPal to this person; they only told me that I would find their friend’s address “in the PayPal transfer” which is why I’m completely baffled. What’s even stranger is that I asked them, "Could you send me a screenshot so I can see your available shipping options please?"
and then no reply, but the payment for the item in question on eBay and not PayPal, with their friend’s French address

OP3 years agoI think you misunderstood my problem, meanwhile I think there are kinder and more understanding people than you who will be able to help me.

·3 years agoHello
If you didn’t get the email from eBay saying the payment was OK and that you can go ahead with the shipment, forget it because it’s a scam attempt ..
If you have the payment in your PayPal account, which doesn’t seem to be the case, it’s a sale outside eBay, and there you do whatever you want ..
If no payment was made to eBay by the buyer, wait 4 full days before canceling the sale, see this link :

OP3 years agoCould you tell me why it's misconfigured? I created my account very recently, so it's possible that there are a few mistakes

already feedback rejected that’s no use, then if we only want to sell in France we
have to exclude the other countries
and for the rest on the net when there’s any doubt we get out

OP3 years agoAnother thing, the user's profile is private, so it's impossible to see even the slightest review about them

" Another thing, the user's profile is private "
And in your second post, you nevertheless stated: " It should also be noted that the person is very well rated and has been on the site since December 2, 2001, so in principle they’re a trustworthy buyer … "
That won’t change anything given how hard you’re looking for every reason to cancel this transaction. So do it and move on.
la_gerbille
OP3 years agoDo you know if there are many cases of hacked profiles on the platform?
I don’t want to cancel the sale now because if the person is honest, you understand

Post at 8:46 pm : " Okay thanks, I think I’m going to cancel the transaction "
Post at 9:44 pm : " I don’t feel like canceling the sale right now "
What I mostly understand is that you’re just contradicting yourself. Under these conditions, it’s simply impossible to help you any further (as far as I’m concerned).
You’ll probably get other opinions on this transaction.
Have a good evening.
la_gerbille
OP3 years agoyes, I’m contradicting myself because I’m not sure about the accusations I’m making, so I changed my mind; I’d rather wait a bit and get some other testimonies first.
Would you even know whether there are many hacked profiles on the platform?
Like I told you, this is my first sale in a very long time on this platform and I don’t know whether there are a lot of scams or not. I know that Facebook, for example, is nothing but that...

OP3 years agoAh well, great, thanks a lot for your help... I was simply asking for advice, Facebook is full of scams and I don't know eBay, so excuse me if I'm asking for advice, I don't see what's wrong with that. It seems to me that's the least one can do...

·3 years agoYeah^^
And me, bam, straight into my banned buyers, that kind of buyer, we can do without them^^
francexpressdeal
·3 years agoHello @la_gerbille
basically, you don't deliver to Germany so what he explained to you makes sense. However, from what you're saying, he made a payment directly to your Payapl account. That can happen, but it's therefore a transaction outside eBay and that's prohibited.
How did he get your PayPal address and did you check that this payment is really genuine by logging directly into your paypal account?

and you do have the delivery address in France indicated in the order confirmation email?
If that's the case, I don't think it's a scam. (but of course that's just my opinion)

Wait for other opinions, but for me there’s nothing abnormal given what you explained.
That said, if you really fear a possible dispute, then you’ll need to cancel the sale.

once again, for me everything is normal.
In any case, given how strongly you feel about this transaction, it is clearly better for you to cancel it.

·3 years agoAre you a little paranoid, a little out of touch with how society and people have changed over the past 10 years?
Best of luck...
PS: what exactly is normality?...
