I just received an email from Ebay and, as I understand it, starting September 1, 2026 for French (and Italian) sellers, it will be the buyer who pays the various selling fees and the seller will receive 100% of their listed sale price.
This is a revolution for the site, however, will buyers be willing to pay 7 to 10% extra fees + a fixed amount + shipping costs + any non-EU tax?

·1 week agoEbay is moving closer to the business model of v....d and le ... coin...but I’ve experimented with sales on those two sites, yes there is no commission on the final price for the seller, the buyer will have to pay those fees and, in return, will ask for a lower price and on the same item sold, the margin for a pro on ebay ultimately remains similar, if not higher, than on the other sites.
Trade has always been complicated, you have to adapt, it will be necessary to negotiate even harder at the outset to keep your margin and I remain convinced that ebay customers prefer buying from a serious pro rather than a private seller with no guarantee.
For more than 25 years on ebay I’ve seen many changes, the fees, sellers who no longer sell, etc, I’m still here and optimistic.

because of buyers' hesitancy, who will feel shortchanged and will avoid private sellers...
An elegant way to solve a problem that has been brewing for years.... the contradiction between private individuals and professionals in the role of seller and their various responsibilities...

As for private sellers, the site has never done anything against them, so they're not going to change their tune overnight.
This new system for ebay.fr was already put in place on ebay.uk quite a while ago and it changed nothing.
Like anything new, people are going to talk about it for a while and then we'll move on to something else.

·1 week agoit seems to me that on Vinted it's like that's how it works, private sellers will just have to lower their selling price since the fees will be paid directly by the buyer, I don't see the difference, on the other hand for professionals nothing new, I am a professional and when the buyer buys he is first attracted only by the selling price, the ones who will be hurt are the pros who have excessive charges outside of eBay including on shipping costs (social, tax, CFE, Citeo, and now the obligation of paid electronic invoicing for data transmission on 9/1/2027, plus the eBay shop, maybe eBay should clean house a bit among private sellers who act like pros in terms of volume and price, I think that certain mandatory reporting measures for sales platforms to the tax authorities are starting to take effect with the annual threshold of 2000 euros not to be exceeded on pain of taxation or of moving to professional status, regards

"The selling and buying experience on eBay.fr will change as of September 1, 2026. To reflect these changes, we are updating our Terms of Use, the fees applicable on eBay.fr, as well as certain rules and services.
Terms of Use update
The main changes to our Terms of Use concern:
the removal of transaction fees (final value fee and regulatory operating fees) for private sellers whose eBay account is registered with an address in the European Economic Area, when they sell an item on ebay.fr;
the introduction of Buyer Protection fees that may apply in certain categories when you buy an item listed for sale on eBay.fr or eBay.it from a private seller whose eBay account is registered with an address in France or Italy. Where these fees apply, they are included in the total amount displayed at each step of the transaction and are paid by the buyer to eBay.
We have also made some minor changes to our Terms of Use so that they more accurately reflect eBay Services.

Changes to certain services and features
We would also like to inform you of the following changes:
We are updating our Payment Methods Policy to indicate that cash payments will no longer be allowed for most in-person transactions.
The multiple quantity purchase feature will now be reserved for professional sellers. Active listings using multiple purchase discounts will automatically be converted to listings with multiple quantities, without multiple purchase discounts.
All of these updates and changes will take effect on September 1, 2026.
By continuing to use eBay Services after that date, you accept the updated Terms of Use, Policies and services. If you do not accept these updates, you can close your eBay account before they take effect."
