FYI: Shipments to the United States New formalities
Summary: francexpressdeal shared an announcement from La Poste regarding new regulations for sending certain products to the United States and Puerto Rico as of September 17, 2026. These changes include strengthened controls and new formalities for categories such as children's items, toys, costume jewelry, electronics, clothing, and sports articles. Senders are required to register with the CPSC and provide a declaration for each item. To avoid issues, temporary suspension of sending these products via Colissimo is in effect until the new requirements are integrated. Non-compliance could lead to penalties or destroyed parcels.
Hello,
copy of the message received today from La Poste:
Since September 17, 2026, the US authorities have put in place new procedures for sending certain products to the United States and Puerto Rico.
This regulation introduces strengthened checks on certain products in the categories below and imposes new procedures for shippers.
Categories containing products likely to be affected (non-exhaustive list):
• Children's items
• Toys
• Fashion jewelry
• Electronic products
• Clothing
• Sports items
The list of products subject to these new requirements may be expanded by the US authorities in the coming months.
For these products, the US authorities now require the shipper to carry out:
• registration with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), the US agency responsible for consumer safety
• a prior declaration for each item before shipping.
What changes as of today
While we wait for our Colissimo shipping processes to be adapted, shipping of the products concerned will be temporarily suspended via Colissimo purchasing flows on laposte.fr and at post offices.
This measure is intended to avoid any blockage or refusal at entry into US territory, while our services integrate these new procedures.
Other goods can still be shipped, subject to compliance with the usual customs formalities.
What do you need to do before shipping?
Before preparing your parcel, we invite you to:
• check whether your product is among the items affected by this new regulation;
• contact your supplier to obtain the information needed for CPSC certification;
• consult our dedicated Help section to find out all the steps to follow.
